چکیده

The thermal stability and dewetting effects of crystalline organic thin films on inorganic substrates have been investigated for a model system for organic epitaxy, 3,4,9,10-perylenetetracarboxylic dianhydride ~PTCDA! on Ag~111!. The thin films deposited under a variety of growth conditions have been annealed stepwise and studied by in situ x-ray diffraction and noncontact atomic force microscopy. It has been found that comparatively smooth films deposited at temperatures Tg &350 K are metastable, while films deposited at Tg*350 K are stable against annealing on a time scale of several hours. The thermal expansion of thin PTCDA films and bulk samples has been determined. © 2003 American Institute of Physics. @DOI: 10.1063/1.1589471#

Organic semiconducting thin film growth on an organic substrate: 3,4,9,10-perylenetetracarboxylic dianhydride on a monolayer of decanethiol self-assembled on Au„111..

We use surface x-ray diffraction to study the structure of organic-organic heterojunctions grown by organic molecular-beam deposition. In particular, we study films of 3,4,9,10-perylenetetracarboxylic dianhydride ~PTCDA! grown on a decanethiol self-assembled monolayer ~SAM! on a Au~111! surface. The deposition of several ('16) monolayers of PTCDA results in unstrained crystalline films whose ~0...

Late growth stages and post-growth diffusion in organic epitaxy: PTCDA on Ag(111)

The late growth stages and the post-growth diffusion of crystalline organic thin films have been investigated for 3,4,9,10-perylenetetracarboxylic dianhydride (PTCDA) on Ag(111), a model system in organic epitaxy. In situ Xray measurements at the anti-Bragg point during the growth show intensity oscillations followed by a time-independent intensity which is independent of the growth temperature...

In situ studies of morphology, strain, and growth modes of a molecular organic thin film

We use grazing incidence x-ray scattering to study the molecular structure and morphology of thin ~,70 ML! crystalline films of 3,4,9,10-perylenetetracarboxylic dianhydride ~PTCDA! on Au~111! surfaces as a function of film thickness, substrate temperature, and growth rate. Although the first two PTCDA monolayers grow in a layer-by-layer fashion, the film evolution beyond the second monolayer de...

Complex Stoichiometry-Dependent Reordering of 3,4,9,10-Perylenetetracarboxylic Dianhydride on Ag(111) upon K Intercalation.

Alkali metal atoms are frequently used for simple yet efficient n-type doping of organic semiconductors and as an ingredient of the recently discovered polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon superconductors. However, the incorporation of dopants from the gas phase into molecular crystal structures needs to be controlled and well understood in order to optimize the electronic properties (charge carrier...

Metal-organic extended 2D structures: Fe-PTCDA on Au(111).

In this work we combine organic molecules of 3,4,9,10-perylenetetracarboxylic dianhydride (PTCDA) with iron atoms on an Au (111) substrate in ultra-high vacuum conditions at different temperatures. By means of scanning tunnelling microscopy (STM) we study the formation of stable 2D metal-organic structures. We show that at certain growth conditions (temperature, time and coverage) stable 'ladde...
